About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our team of accounting professionals on a 15-month contract. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, Income Producing Properties (IPP), the Accounting Manager oversees financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvements for the IPP portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate financials, effective team leadership, and cross-department collaboration to support the company’s strategic and operational goals.
What You'll Do
Financial Reporting
- Deliver period-end financials for assigned IPP entities by established deadlines
- Provide insightful and consistent variance analysis, rent rolls, and joint venture reports
- Maintain capital asset schedules for the IPP portfolio
Close Process Oversight
- Manage the month-end and quarter-end close for assigned portfolios, ensuring all journal entries, reconciliations, and reviews are completed
- Review journal entries, and CAM recovery calculations prepared by junior accountants
Budget and Reforecast Assistance
- Ensure forecasts and budgets for assigned properties are completed in alignment with established deadlines.
- Coordinate closely with property managers, and leasing team to validate assumptions and accounting inputs
Lease Accounting
- Review commercial lease documentation and ensure accurate setup of new leases and amendments in Yardi.
- Coordinate leasing commission entries and support clean period-end reporting in collaboration with the Leasing team.
Compliance and Stakeholder Support
- Complete GST remittances for assigned properties
- Coordinate with Treasury on mortgage-related accounting and reporting
- Prepare year-end working papers and support audit requests
Team Development and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Mentor and support direct reports, resolving technical issues and fostering accountability.
- Promote knowledge sharing and professional development through training.
- Collaborate with Property Management, Asset Management/Leasing and Development teams to enhance reporting flows and cross-functional processes.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate or property management.
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and reviewing work of junior property accountants.
- Strong hands-on experience preparing and reviewing monthly financial reporting packages, including income statement variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Demonstrated expertise in CAM recovery reconciliations, rent rolls, PAPs, and commercial lease accounting.
- Experience reviewing commercial lease documents and setting up new leases and amendments in Yardi or a similar real estate accounting system.
- Experience coordinating annual budgets and forecasts in partnership with Operations and Leasing teams
- Exposure to treasury and mortgage coordination and accounting support for property financing.
- Experience with GST remittances, year-end working papers, and supporting the audit process.
- Experience supporting property acquisitions, including accounting setup and transition.
- Ability to produce joint venture financial reports and presentations, incorporating stakeholder feedback and aligning with industry best practices.
Our salary ranges and bonus percentages are determined by job family and level. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, education and training, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
