New Vancouver-based startup Free Agent has announced plans for an online career marketplace designed to connect collegiate, professional and retired athletes with employers so they can find job opportunities. Once launched, Free Agent will provide athletes with resources such as training, mentorship and networking opportunities to support their transition into the workforce.

The company’s founder and CEO Kirsten Toth has extensive experience as a professional hockey player and within the recruiting sector. According to reporting from Betakit, Toth aims to use her experiences as an athlete and recruiting consultant to support Free Agent’s mission.

Last month, Free Agent secured $500,000 CAD in pre-seed funding, and the company opened a waitlist for both athletes and companies, with a closed beta test scheduled to launch by the end of the year.
