GC AI is currently an AI platform for in-house lawyers to 10x themselves. Using the latest LLMs, we are building AI agents that can use company knowledge, leverage external sources, and connect with internal tools to provide better and faster legal advice to the rest of the company. Thousands of weekly active users tell us they “cannot imagine their lives without GC AI” - which has led us to 95% retention and a NPS of 75.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build for a $1T annual market. We have jaw-dropping product-market fit - growing our customer base from 0 to 500+ legal teams in a year and 3X ARR growth in the last 4 months. Join our Series A stage rocket ship backed by top investors like Sound Ventures, Fellows Fund, Guillermo Rauch and Worklife Ventures. GC AI is a small but mighty team of lawyers, engineers, sellers and doers. Here, you’ll have infinite room to grow and rethink how legal work gets done.
Come build the future with us.
VP, EngineeringAbout the roleAs our VP of Engineering, you’ll set our technical direction and architecture for the company. You will lead, scale, and support a remote Engineering team and work closely with our product visionary founders to build the best legal tech for in-house counsel. You champion product-led development and believe teams should put customers at the center of what they do.
You are a magnet for top talent and a world-class people manager. You understand how to build, recruit, and scale teams from 5-10 to 30-50. You'll become an expert in our product, talk directly with customers to gather feedback, and be a technical sounding board for engineers. You'll develop the next layer of management while creating growth opportunities for both individual contributors and people who want to lead.
As part of the leadership team, you'll work with the founders and other department heads to align on business goals. You'll shape our tech strategy, build our engineering culture, and guide product development to help us grow.
Responsibilities will include:
Building, recruiting, developing, and keeping great Engineering talent. This person will scale the Engineering team 8-10x (currently at 5) in 18-24 months
Leading a remote Engineering team with GC AI values - problem solving, creating a culture of ownership, continuous learning, delivering high-quality products, and being customer-obsessed. Creating an environment where people feel both challenged and empowered to grow.
Drive technical direction and architecture alongside the founders to create a unified tech vision that excites both employees and customers
Giving product-led development teams enough freedom to innovate while providing guidance when needed
Developing tech leads and managers who can run effective engineering sprints, balance technical debt, and keep development moving at the right pace to hit business goals
Managing the tech budget and setting clear guidelines for when to build vs. when to buy
Joining leadership team meetings (quarterly planning and weekly check-ins) where you'll bring the engineering perspective and help everyone understand how different strategies impact the engineering team
Working with Product and Go-to-Market teams to align on the business roadmap, developing partnerships with external tech companies, and identifying strategic opportunities
Keeping internal and external stakeholders (like our Board and investors) in the loop on our engineering strategy
Required Experience:
You'll have your own philosophy on building great teams and launching awesome products. And you'll be open to new ideas and constantly evolving your approach.
You should understand best practices across the full software development lifecycle and be able to talk tech - including concepts, trade-offs, and new ideas - with both technical and non-technical people.
GC AI wants a decisive leader who listens well, draws from past experience, experiments with new approaches, and appropriately balances short-term versus long-term considerations.
10+ years of relevant experience in progressive engineering management roles at a SaaS company
5+ years of experience building and rapidly scaling high-performing engineering teams over 12-24 months
Experience scaling and achieving at fast-paced, VC-backed organizations
Technical credibility to drive the technical agenda with a strong engineering team (ideally you're T-shaped or pi-shapred with deep knowledge in at least one-two technical areas, bonus points if it's AI)
Exceptional leadership and communication skills – a good listener who can be both empathetic and pragmatic
Strong customer empathy - you believe engineers should talk directly to customers
Proven ability to deliver scalable, cloud-based software while (a) pushing the team to ship v0 quickly and iterate, and (b) bringing AI into developer workflows
Strong interpersonal skills and a knack for collaborating across departments through building consensus
Proven problem-solving abilities and experience making clear-headed decisions while under pressure
