The Role

We'd like you to conduct an experiment. Log on Twitter. Search "dbrand marketing". Open a new tab. Search "[your company's name] marketing". Compare and contrast the results.
With that out of the way, here's the million-dollar question: are you going to spend the rest of your career slapping together promotional offers for an unscrubbed email list that tops out at a 5% open rate, or are you ready to start building retention funnels for 20x repeat customers with LTVs in the thousands?
Our brand promise is simple: "It's not a product. It's a culture.™" That's a lot more than a catchphrase -- it's core to everything we do. Whether we're sending content creators birthday cakes with baked-in phones, roasting beggars on social media, nuking PETA, or creating a mini-documentary of a customer getting our logo tattooed on their leg, we're in the business of building a brand experience first, and delivering (world-class) products second. In return, we’ve amassed a cult. That, and access to a lot of wallets. We won't lie: it's a pretty sweet deal.
Our email marketing machine is one of our most powerful tools when it comes to spreading the good word of dbrand to the unwashed masses. We're looking for an Email Marketing Specialist who can supercharge that machine. Whether they're developing and maintaining email campaigns, coordinating with our creative team for assets, or finding methods to further improve our gold-standard open and click-through rates, the Email Marketing Specialist retains a singular focus: evolve the cult. If that doesn't sound like your kind of job, save us all some time and close the tab. The job isn't right for you.
If, on the other hand, you're the sort of analytical and motivated individual that we're looking for -- possessing razor-sharp judgment and a knack for critical thinking -- you should keep reading. "dbrand marketing" and "[your company's name] marketing" might end up being identical search queries.
The Environment

Still here? Excellent. dbrand thrives where other eCommerce companies have failed because our customers enjoy a revolutionary degree of commitment, engagement, and accessibility from us. Maintaining an internal culture of excellence, the likes of which our highly-engaged audience demands and deserves, is critical to dbrand's current and future success. Our customers deserve no less than the absolute best, and we hold every member of the team to that exacting standard. Surrounded by a diverse team that lives and breathes dbrand, the Email Marketing Specialist is tasked with deploying and maintaining our email marketing campaigns, applying and monitoring A/B testing across all channels, and keeping their fingers on the pulse of innovative strategies for customer acquisition and retention.
So, what's in it for you? Well, unlike most companies, we actually care about the work we're doing. Every time our customers tweet about us, post on our subreddit, or write an adoring email, we're moving one step closer to world domination. Spreading the good word and growing our cult-like audience? That's its own reward. At dbrand, you have the opportunity to create once-in-a-lifetime brand experiences for consumers. If you're someone who's organized, committed, and excited about our mission, to say you'd thrive here would be an understatement.
Before you can get the opportunity to join our passionate, dynamic team and help us grow the cult, you'll need to prove yourself. Let’s see if you’ve got what it takes…

The Characteristics
  • Agile: You’re nimble. You’re adaptable. You thrive in an environment where priorities can change in an instant.
  • Analytical: Your decisions are driven by only one thing: data. You continue to master all the tools necessary to surface insights.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy purposeful meetings. You value the contributions and perspectives of your colleagues as much as you do your CEO.
  • Curious: You’re eager to learn new concepts and master new skills. There’s no tool that’s useless in your arsenal.
  • Disciplined: You never allow the details to slip, understanding that every bit of minutiae forms the bigger picture.
  • Enthusiastic: You exhibit a contagious passion for retention marketing.
  • Innovative: You develop new approaches to complex problems.
  • Perfectionist: You persist until the smallest detail has been optimized. Knows nothing less than 100%.
  • Persistent: You’ve never failed. You’ve only experienced speed bumps on your path to success.
  • Reliable: You live up to both verbal and written agreements. You can be trusted to work effectively, without oversight.

The Responsibilities and Qualifications
In order to make a positive impact as part of our team, your focus in this role will be to:
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize the retention and conversion strategies on dbrand’s Klaviyo email marketing platform.
    • Transactional flows - onboarding sequences, cart recovery.
    • Acquisition campaigns - product and promotion launches.
    • Engagement campaigns - deliver high value content and experiences .
  • A/B test and iterate every aspect of dbrand’s email communication flows and campaigns.

  • Conduct market research and trend analysis to develop effective campaigns.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and drive implementation of new communication platforms (i.e. SMS, Social Messaging, Chatbots, etc.) to further elevate dbrand’s customer communication experience.
  • Regularly report on key business and digital marketing metrics and KPIs.
If you find a box you can’t check, stop reading and look for a company who demands less from their Marketing team:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Communications or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency with Email Marketing Platforms (such as Klayvio or similar), including managing customer lists, segmenting, building workflows, and building, testing and reporting email campaigns.
  • At least 2 proven years of experience in a D2C Marketing Communications role marketing to substantial audiences.
  • Demonstrable experience in executing, managing, and leading the creative, and ongoing optimization of customer acquisition and retention campaigns.
  • Experience with A/B and multivariate testing.
  • Absolute mastery of analytics tools, including GA and Email Marketing Platform reporting.
  • An impeccable communication style - your grasp on the English language is flawless.
  • Detail-oriented, self-sufficient, resourceful, organized, and proactive.
  • Results driven and able to see the big picture. Keeping a laser focus on many small tests of successes and failures to find the path to a perfected customer experience.
  • The instinct to help teammates thrive and the openness to learn from past experiences.
  • The ability to solve complex problems (or know where to find the answer).
  • Commitment to long-term growth and learning opportunities.
  • Insights and engagement with the current state of smartphone and mobile technology.

The Moment of Truth
The job starts between $70,000 and $80,000 per year with health, dental, vision, profit-sharing and GRSP benefits. The position is fully remote with preference to those living in Southern Ontario, but when required, our HQ is located a few minutes west of Pearson Airport.
Still think you have what it takes to evolve the cult through retention marketing?
To be perfectly honest, we doubt it.

You’re welcome to prove us wrong.
Vacancy Disclosure: This is backfilling an existing role.
