This person will be responsible for obtaining all necessary licenses and registrations for our Canadian business, and developing a robust, scalable compliance program that meets the highest standards of Canadian regulators.

This is our first Canadian compliance hire as we establish our Canadian entity and operations, requiring an experienced professional with deep regulatory expertise in Canada and practical experience navigating Canadian and global compliance frameworks, including CIRO and dealer licence applications.

Please note: This role is available for Canadian-based candidates only. Responsibilities
  • Leading the Canadian licensing and registration process, coordinating internally, managing regulatory submissions and serving as primary contact with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust compliance, risk management, and AML/ATF framework for Strike’s Canadian operations in line with Strike’s global standards and local requirements, including all required policies, procedures and controls expected by Canadian regulators.
  • Overseeing the Canadian compliance function, including all financial crime and other regulatory compliance matters, policies, processes and procedures for the Canadian entity, including any regulatory reporting.
  • Managing regulatory relationships and ensuring compliance with applicable Canadian financial, securities, and AML laws and regulations. Maintaining all necessary licenses, registrations, and approvals.
  • Ensuring the role and compliance function meet CIRO CCO proficiency standards and related regulatory expectations.
  • Supporting global compliance alignment and cross-jurisdictional initiatives, including assisting partner management including banks and similar partners on compliance and diligence matters.
  • Working closely with internal and external legal counsel on all legal and application matters where required.
  • Manage compliance risk reporting and governance processes, including board and committee reporting.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory and compliance risks.
  • Where required, serving as a board and/or committee member for our Canadian entities.
  • Actively contributing to our global enterprise compliance function, including providing expertise and support across the global compliance function in areas beyond Canada, as and when required.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Compliance within a highly regulated Canadian financial institution, FinTech, or similar sector
  • Prior experience in, or strong familiarity with, licensing or registration processes for regulated financial entities and CIRO members in Canada.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian regulatory landscape, including applicable rules for bitcoin companies and custodians.
  • Must meet, or be eligible to meet, CIRO Chief Compliance Officer proficiency standards, including relevant securities or compliance qualifications.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, organisational, and writing skills, and strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Well organised self-starter, able to prioritise quickly, think from first principles, and meet deadlines, whilst retaining good judgement and risk management.
  • Ability to take ownership of work products and consistently deliver results in a high growth and high-quality-bar environment.
  • You must be comfortable with a team-first approach in a remote work environment, and excited about Strike’s mission and potential.
Compensation
  • Salary range: CA$170K to CA$205K
  • Equity in a high-growth startup
